Five-year-old Sanjana discharged after more than 20 days of treatment

HYDERABAD: More than 20 days after surviving a road accident, five-year-old Sanjana was finally discharged from the hospital on Wednesday.

Sanjana and her mother Sreedevi suffered serious injuries when a car, being driven by a drunk man, hit them at Pedamberpet. The duo have been in a critical condition since then.

While Sanjana, who suffered multiple injuries to her brain and limbs, is out of danger now, her mother Sreedevi is still recuperating from her broken ribs.

Sanjana was on ventilator support for a long time and even doctors couldn’t gauge her situation.  “She is fine now. Doctors informed us that she has recovered completely. Her behaviour seems normal as she is responding well to us,” said Shivanand, Sanjana’s father.

“There is a blood clot in her brain. She is unable to walk as of now but she is otherwise fine,” added Shivanand. The nightmare seems to be over.

“It hurts and I do not recall anything that happened to me on the day of the accident. I was told that I was in Sunshine Hospital first and then I was moved to Kamineni. My elder daughter, eight-year-old Pravalika told me what happened. I still cannot recall a thing,” shared Sreedevi. However, the nightmare seems to be over now.

The family, which lives on Shivanand’s meager salary of `100 a day, is glad that their treatment has been taken care of by the state government under the Aarogya Sree scheme. “No one asked me for a single rupee. Everything has been taken care of,” said Shivanand.

Meanwhile, the accused Venkata Ramana, a software professional who was driving the car on the fateful day, is out on bail. “He gave us some money for treatment on October 2, the day my wife and child were admitted. We haven’t heard from him since then. Another chargesheet will be filed now that Sanjana has been discharged. We will see what happens,” said Shivanand.
