HYDERABAD: Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) floor leader and Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi on Tuesday appeared before the magistrate at the Nampally criminal court and got his statement recorded, regarding the 2011 attack on him in Barkas.

He identified five accused in the gun and knife attack on him five years ago and told the magistrate that a bullet is still lodged in his right thigh.

He recalled the events of the day of the attack from the time he came out of his house to the time he was attacked with guns and knives in Barkas. He identified accused Mohammad Pahelwan, Afeef bin Mohammad Yafai, Abdullah bin Yafai, Awad bin Yafai and Isa bin Yafai. “The chief examination has yet not been completed and would be continued tomorrow,” Akbaruddin’s lawyer Advocate Gandham Gurumurthy told Express.

“Akbaruddin identified the revolver that he was carrying during the attack but said that due to being injured, he could not use it,” he added.  Meanwhile, fearing clash between Mohammad Pahalwan’s follower’s and of AIMIM, over 100 policemen were deployed at the court during the proceeding of the trial.  Several AIMIM MLAs and followers of Akbaruddin Owaisi had entered the court as the MIM floor leader was taken in tight security to face the 13 accused in the opposite box. After recording Akbaruddin’s statement, the court was adjourned till Wednesday.
