HYDERABAD: A 24-year-old youngster from Warangal in Telangana has been arrested by Rachakonda police on Tuesday for reportedly uploading a mobile number of a woman constable on porn website to take revenge against woman over her role in an investigation of a harassment case in which he was the accused.
The constable was eight months pregnant when the incident happened. ACP Snehita said that the constable went on a maternity leave a few days after the incident due to the trauma caused by the messages sent to her by the accused.
On October 14, 2016, a female student of Prathibha Degree College in Hyderabad made a phone call to the Rachakonda SHE Team stating that she was receiving abusive messages from an unknown number and that the stranger refused to stop contacting her. Ibrahimpatnam SHE Team in-charge, assistant SI Narasimha was assigned the job. However, the woman was worried about lodging a complaint and did not want to book a FIR and requested him to resolve the problem. In the inquiry process, a woman constable, who was part of the SHE team called the accused for details. The accused behaved rudely and did not cooperate. Soon, he started harassing the woman constable by sending her abusive messages, Rachakonda police said.
The woman constable lodged a complaint based on which a case was registered under Section 354 (D) of IPC at the Ibrahimpatnam police station on January 23, 2017.
Since then, the accused was absconding and continued sending vulgar messages to the woman constable. A month ago, he uploaded the constable’s number on a porn website and she received hundreds of calls and messages from strangers, ACP Snehita said.
By monitoring the number used by the accused, police zeroed in on Biram Nikil Kumar (24)at Warangal district on Monday. He has been arrested under Sections 354(D), 419, 420, 471, 186 IPC and 66(c) of IT Act and remanded to judicial custody, said ACP. He is a private employee and a native resident of Parakala.
Responding to a query, Snehita said, “Nikil used false documents to procure a SIM card and was using that number for this purpose. His phone contained a few more numbers of girls to whom he was sending abusive messages. The investigation is on to identify other victims.”
