11-year-old tortured by teacher in Hyderabad; approaches rights organisation and media

Interestingly, a year ago, the child's father had lodged a complaint against the teacher's minor nephew, after the nephew sped into the school on his bike and hit the eleven-year-old girl.

HYDERABAD: Alleging continued torture at the hands of a school teacher, an eleven-year-old student from Kendriya Vidyalaya no-2, Golconda approached a city-based child rights organisation and media demanding the immediate transfer of the teacher in question.

The child's decision is following the fact that she is scared to go back to school.

The sixth-grader said that she was being continually abused by her Hindi teacher, Kiranjeet Kaur. The child alleged that on August 9, she was held by the throat and threatened, on August 10, she was dragged through the corridor while the teacher was choking her.

Interestingly, a year ago, the child's father had lodged a complaint against the teacher's minor nephew, after the nephew sped into the school on his bike and hit the eleven-year-old girl which led her to have seizures.

The child further shared that the teacher had been torturing her since the lodging of the police complaint.

On August 16, the mother took this to the principal’s notice who promised necessary action. She pointed that while strict nature of teachers is acceptable, this kind of behaviour has created a traumatising effect.  “She does not want to go to school and is highly disturbed. It has also taken a toll on her academics,” she shared.

Inquiry ordered by principal

Agreeing that the issue was brought to his notice on Wednesday, Punna Rao, principal of the school said that he had constituted a committee to look into the matter.

“I do not think that a teacher can treat children that way. However, I am waiting for the report and will be able to comment only on Friday,” he said.

He also denied the mother’s allegation that the teacher had lodged a counter complaint against the principal.

“The boy met with an accident outside the gate after we as a unit, raised around 1Rs .5 lakh for the child’s treatment. Around Rs 21,000 was paid by the Hindi teacher alone. However, I will take necessary action only after a proper inquiry,” he added.

Repeated attempts to reach the teacher turned futile.
