HYDERABAD: A hawaldar of the Indian Army was killed when his elder brother allegedly stabbed him five times around his abdomen, owing to a dispute over a 100-square yard property at Uppal, Hyderabad.

The siblings had allegedly been in a dispute for around three years and an argument over drinks at their home reportedly ended in the murder.

According to Uppal police, Bandari Yesu (36) a hawaldar in Indian Army was working in Bhopal. His elder brother Gangaratnam (42) is working as a clerk with Survey of India in Hyderabad. Around 11 years ago, the duo jointly purchased a 100 square yard plot at Seven Hills Colony in Uppal and built a house.

The proposal to sell was put forward by Yesu a few years ago, but it did not work out as his brother was opposing to the idea.

As Yesu worked in Bhopal, his family was living along with his brother’s family in Hyderabad. Yesu had come to the city on August 13, on a vacation, as he does every year.

On Wednesday evening, he and his brother were having drinks in front of their house at Uppal when the argument over selling the house erupted. They first hurled stones at each other, then Gangaratnam picked up a knife from the kitchen and stabbed his brother.

Family members who heard the screams rushed in Yesu’s rescued and admitted him to a hospital for treatment, where he succumbed in the night, said K Narsing Rao, inspector, Uppal.

A case of murder has been registered against Gangaratnam and search is underway. The body has been handed over to his wife Mary after performing postmortem examination at Gandhi hospital mortuary, the police added.
