HYDERABAD: In taking necessary measures to curb mosquito menace in Moosapet Ward, Urban Malaria (Entomology) wing of monsoon and disaster management groups of Moosapet circle held an anti-larvae drive in Avanti Nagar, a colony in the ward, following an article published in these columns on August 20 with the heading, “Moosapet residents say ward is ‘hub’ of mosquitoes.”

The eighteen-member team inspected 250 houses as part of the drive and sprayed pesticide chemicals in a few stagnated water containers which they found to have mosquito larvae. Speaking to Express, Uday Kiran, Asst Entomologist, Moosapet circle in charge said that more than us doing the job, the residents should become aware of the problem. “Fogging is temporary, it is to people’s satisfaction. Killing larvae are the key to avoid mosquitoes,” he said. The most common space for breeding of a mosquito is stagnant water and a single mosquito lays about 100-200 eggs and has a lifespan of about 50 days in case of a female mosquito and 10 days in a male mosquito.
