HYDERABAD: A three-year-old boy sustained injuries after he fell off an escalator while playing in a toy tricycle at a supermarket store located in a mall in Kachiguda area of the city, the police said today.

The boy and his parents had gone to the mall last night when the incident occurred, Sultan Bazar police station sub-inspector Krishna Prasad said.

"The family went to the second floor of the supermarket, and the boy was playing in the tricycle taken from the children's segment of the store. He accidentally drove it towards the escalator from where he fell down. He sustained injuries to his face and nose," Prasad said quoting a complaint lodged by the boy's father.

The CCTV footage of the incident aired by some TV channels here showed the boy driving the tricycle towards the escalator and tumbling down suddenly.

"The child was admitted to hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable. No case has been registered in connection with the incident. We are verifying the complaint," the officer said.

Meanwhile, a city-based NGO today alleged that the escalator from where the boy fell down was not functioning properly, and demanded registration of a criminal case against the management of the mall for "negligence".
