HYDERABAD: The residents of Old City have started a signature campaign to pitch for the protection of temples and mosques across the country. The campaigners, who are both students and adults, say they will take the campaign to the rest of Telangana.
Abdallah Bahmaid of Barkas, one of the campaigners, said, “Our aim is to get such massive support for the campaign that it reaches Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. One masjid was demolished (Babri Masjid) and it led to so much communal unrest in the country, that it has not died down till date.”
It is our duty as citizens to safeguard the secular fabric of our country and we should stand together and be a part of Mandir Masjid Bachao campaign, he said. The peaceful co-existence of our people despite of their religious diversity is what makes our country stand out and we should together let this continue, said another campaigner Vijay Kumar, head of a Shiv temple in Old City. The campaigners also that none of the historic buildings should be revamped or destroyed, they should only be restored.
