HYDERABAD: Justice S V Bhatt of the High Court has recently issued notice to the Telangana government, directing it to place all relevant material before him with regard to a batch of petitions filed by the managements of cinema theatres in the city challenging the orders of the state government to sell tickets through a selected private portal and pay money to the Telangana State Film Development Corporation (TSFDC).

The government, vide the impugned GO and circular, directed all the cinema theatres in the city to register with Century Tech Systems Private Limited’s ticketing portal and sell their tickets through it. If the theatres fail to register, it will be deemed that all the shows were houseful and the tax will be levied accordingly. The theatres have to pay 1.98 percent of the ticket rate to the TSFDC.
