The artworks of artist Sita Sudhakar try to create a balance between dreams and reality
Verses on Canvas

HYDERABAD: The paintings exhibition entitled Vadanam held at Rainbow Art Gallery had various elements to keep the viewers engrossed as the artist Sita Sudhakar put on display a wonderful melange of different artworks in colours both subtle and vibrant that balanced the mood of the entire show. Though the exhibition continued only for four days, it was interesting to see the different themes the Pune-based artist brought together.

As you enter the art gallery, you notice the group of artworks in acrylics depicting faces being joined or perhaps ruptured by a strong pillar that highlights the artist’s play with themes and connotations that bring into play the juxtaposition of of a face with a lofty pillar which divides it into almost two hemispheres as if the face was pinned there and somebody forgot to take it off.

In another series of faces that she has painted, one can see the eyes crossing the frame of the face almost like boats floating on a river changing its moods. But the mood that the artist captures is of serenity. It’s interesting to note that the artist has also infused a few of her poems in the corner of the artwork. The words written in Telugu roughly convey the idea of eternal search reflecting the deep thoughts lurking within the artist’s heart. It’s from such depths that she wants to define the beatitude inside.

At the same time she draws the attention to her semi-abstract work of child-face. The opus appears to be in motion as if it were fluid. The lines break the momentum, yet we see the puerile expression of happiness sans any artifice or malice. The colour palette is also kept subtle to define the mood. On another wall one notices a beautifully decked-up woman wearing paisley-shaped earrings with a matching bejewelled headgear. The doe-eyed woman has a mysterious smile playing on her face. The muted colour palette sometimes adds a mystifying aura around her catching the attention of the beholder to the finesse with which the artist has shaped up her work.

Her take on various artworks on Ganesha is notable. The deity is portrayed in vivid hues that are in perfect sync with Krishna in a frame of peacock feathers. The luminosity catches the eye as do the different shades of green and blue lending the canvas a shade of serenity. The artist sums up saying, “The poetry in my paintings echo the language of the soul rendering a gentle touch to the experiences of the daily life.”
