What’s VIP treatment in hospitals like?

Every time a high-profile personality is hospitalised, or even makes a visit for a usual checkup at a hospital, it is none other than the common man who suffers.

HYDERABAD: Every time a high profile personality is hospitalised, or even makes a visit for a usual check up at a hospital, it is none other than the common man who suffers.
Security set up at the hospital becomes rigid if it is an important politician or a film star who is getting treated. Usually, in such cases, corporate hospitals hire private security to maintain order.

However, when it comes to a politician undergoing treatment, cops take utmost care in providing security. Gates are fortified, and visitors’ entry is monitored closely. Hospitals too have a protocol on how security should be arranged when an important person is admitted.
Unless it is a medical emergency it has been seen that VIPs prefer visiting doctors at corporate hospitals at mid of nights to avoid public attention.

While doctors also pay personal visit to their homes, sometimes the medical devices or equipment cannot be taken to residences. In such situations, the bigwigs pay a hush-hush visit to hospitals. Many ministers from the Telugu States, movie stars have often adopted this approach earlier for their check ups, sources in corporate hospitals said. Some are learnt to be sticklers to passing strict orders on keeping their visit to the hospital away from media.

“The doctors are informed of their visit and the bigwigs visit the hospital during late night hours to avoid attention,” sources in a corporate hospital said.

“We face issues when a film star visits a high-profile patient, but not much when a politician does. Attendants in the hospital pour into the area where the patient is admitted just to catch a glimpse of the stars.
We face problems in clearing crowd in such situations. But similar scenes are not witnessed if it is a politician who is visiting the hospital,” sources said, adding that while all measures are taken to avoid any disturbance to public if another patient in same block were to get immediate medical attention, treatment might get effected because people jostle to take a peek at the stars.
