HYDERABAD: Hyderabad-based International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI) has developed a technology that can be used in making anti-mine boots. This might prove a boon for Indian security forces which lose many lives to landmines every year.

The anti-mine boots will be just one of the over hundred products and technologies developed by ARCI that will be on display at the two-day ARCITechEx 2017, a technology exposition to be held by ARCI on its campus at Balapur from Feb 27.

Dr G Padmanabham, director of ARCI, said: “ARCI has always been an industry oriented organisation where Research and Development is conducted with an aim of developing technology that can be transferred to the industry which will further use it to develop various products for the society.

Till now we have transferred 16 technologies to 28 companies. Aim of the expo is to put forward all our latest and earlier developed technologies to the industry.”

Focus area
The focus of this expo will be on two areas - Fuel Cell Technology and  Surface Engineering. Fuel cells have an important role in development of eco-friendly vehicles.

However, the production cost of fuel cells is very high. To counter this, ARCI has developed low cost technologies for manufacturing components used in fuel cells and plans to sell this technology to industries which will help in reducing overall cost of the cells.

Dr Padmanabham said 130 companies have already registered with ARCI for the expo.
