Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled expands to Telangana and launched Braille & Audio Library at Picket near Jubilee Bus Station on Friday. Mahantesh, founder of the trust is receipient of NDTV Spirit of Sport Award for 2011, in the Against the Odds - Lifetime Achievement category inaugurated the facility. The library has 20 books now. Some of the books are Aaharam Aroghyam, ABC Book, Adigi Telusukundam, Anglo Telugu primer, Basics of COmputer, Dictionary, English grammar, Gandhi history, Ganitha Bodhini, India History etc.

This is the second facility after Bengaluru to have Braille & Audio Library. Similar facilities will also be inaugurated in Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Chennai, Kochi and other places, the NGO said.
The objective of the project is to ensure easy access to Braille books, besides which the initiative also aims at encouraging Braille reading and writing amongst the visually impaired students, helping them develop language proficiency. Samarthanama is a decade old trust, has been working to empower the visually impaired, disabled and underprivileged through developmental initiatives focusing on educational, social, economic, cultural and technological aspects.

Speaking on the initiative, Mahantesh G K, Founder Managing Trustee, Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled and President, Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) said, “We intend to set up a state of the art learning centre, design and implement many more disabled friendly programmes in the near future. ”
