HYDERABAD: Used mobile phone recharge coupons left at home led to tracing of an accused in a child sexual assault case on Tuesday 23 days after the incident.

The 50-year-old watchman from Odisha, had been absconding after he sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl at her home, under LB Nagar police limits.

Police arrested the suspect based on a complaint lodged by Ranga Reddy district child protection officer (DCPO). The recharge coupons left at his place proved to be crucial clues in tracking him. Following up on these coupons, police tracked his mobile to Adilabad.

On January 1, the DCPO received information about the sexual assault of the girl when she was alone at her home in LB Nagar police station limits, the girl was allegedly assaulted. When the girl’s parents entered the house, the accused fled. The ACP said that a case under Section 376 (2)(h) of IPC and Section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) has been booked against him.
