HYDERABAD: Online shopping brand Amazon has launched Fire TV Stick, a new streaming media device that plugs into a HDTV and lets customers access movies, TV shows, apps, and games. “It is also the only streaming media stick with a voice remote,” said Abhishek Kaushik, Product Manager, Amazon. The remote of the Fire TV Stick makes it easy to search Amazon Video content using just your voice and offers spoken language support for Indian customers in Hindi and English. Say ‘Baahubali’ into the remote and it will fetch the relevant video within seconds.
At a product demo session in the city on Wednesday, the company personnel said that the new `3,999 product – which resembles a USB drive, is relevant for these times when on-demand TV is replacing the old version where the viewer watches what the channel airs. The device will put forth ‘fluid content without buffering’ from Amazon Prime Video, Hotstar, Eros Now, Voot, Airtel Movies and more and the viewer gets to watch the shows. Amazon Prime Video offers Prime members in India the largest selection of new releases from Bollywood and regional Indian blockbusters.
How it works: Plug the Fire TV Stick into a HDTV, attach the power cable, connect to Wi-Fi, and start streaming. Customers can find their favourite content using the voice remote, or discover more to watch with personalised recommendations right from the home screen.
“The device is portable, making it easy for customers to take it almost anywhere and watch all their favourite content away from home wherever an HDTV and Wi-Fi connection are available (some content not available in all countries). When purchased on Amazon.in, it comes automatically pre-registered so customers can get started. The device has a watchlist and recommendation list, besides the facility to monitor the amount of data consumed so far, data exceed alert, parental control etc.

For customers in India, voice search on the Fire TV Stick supports both English and Hindi.
