Gang planted mole in middle of action

HYDERABAD: During the cordon-and-search operation at Happy Homes Apartments in Rajendranagar on the evening of Muthoot robbery bid, one of the accused was keeping an eye on the attempts of cops at finding clues. The accused gang had left the car at the apartments in order to misguide the police, said sources. The police, after arresting accused Mohammed Dastagir, were also shocked to learn about this. Dastagir, a fruit vendor, had played a key role in providing escape route for gang members and shared the updates of investigation with them.

“Having knowledge of the city roads and routes, Dastagir played a major role. During the escape after the failed attempt, it was Dastagir who suggested parking the car at apartments in Rajendranagar,” said a senior cop, who was part of probe.

When the car was identified, Cyberabad police searched all the 700 houses on the premises, but the accused had fled the city. After the attempt, and before abandoning the car, five of the accused got down on the main road and two entered the apartment in car. Later, six of them boarded a bus to Osmanabad while Dasatagir stayed back. Fearing his possible arrest, he also fled to Rajasthan, said the officer.
