HYDERABAD: In a relief to industrialist Rahul Bajaj, the Hyderabad High Court has recently dismissed a petition filed by one N Satyanarayana of Vijayawada in AP seeking directions to the Central government to cancel the “Padma Bhushan” awarded to Rahul Bajaj, chairman of the Bajaj group of companies.

Justice C Praveen Kumar was dismissing the petition by Satyanarayana, alleging that Rahul Bajaj had mentioned Padma Bhushan prior to his name in a case filed before the High Court seeking to quash criminal proceedings pending against him before a lower court in Vijayawada.

The petitioner told the court that the Bajaj Finance Limited has initiated false complaint against him in 2010 on the charges of cheating at Patamata police station in Vijayawada. The case, however, ended in acquittal by the trial court. After acquittal, he filed a private complaint against Rahul Bajaj and three others before the same trial court.

While the case was pending before the lower court, Rahul Bajaj and others filed a petition before the High Court seeking quashing of criminal proceedings before the lower court. In such petition the respondent referred “Padma Bhushan’’ prior to his name which amounts to misuse of the award granted to him, he said. After hearing the case, the judge noted that the mentioning of the award prior to the respondent’s name was not by him.
