HYDERABAD: While the High court has directed DGPs of the two Telugu states to issue standing orders to all police stations directing them not to issue FIRs regarding love marriages, an assistant sub inspector ( ASI) working with the Telangana Chief Minister’s Camp office has reportedly forcibly separated his daughter from her husband and threatened to lodge a kidnapping complaint against him.

The incident came to light on Friday when the family members of the man tweeted to the Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Sharma seeking police intervention. Responding to the tweet, the DGP has asked for details in connection with the incident.

However, the ASI Satyam Kovur, who is the girl’s father, has allegedly influenced the Hyderabad police in his favour. Gunjan Sarkar and Shruthi Kovur, both IT employees, entered into a love marriage in Siliguri, West Bengal on May 29 against the wishes of their parents.

“After marriage, we informed Shruthi’s father Satyam Kovur. He opposed the marriage as I am a non-Telugu. Later, he convinced me that he will perform the wedding as per Telugu culture. Since then, he has been threatening me and my family members to lodge false complaint in Hyderabad,” said Gunjan.
