Hyderabad HC admits PIL against use of Naya Qila as golf course

A division of the HC on Tuesday admitted a PIL filed against alleged illegal usage of Naya Quila of Golkonda Fort, a heritage monument, as a golf course.

HYDERABAD: A division of the HC on Tuesday admitted a PIL filed against alleged illegal usage of Naya Quila of Golkonda Fort, a heritage monument, as a golf course.

The bench of ACJ Ramesh Ranganathan and justice Shameem Akther was dealing with the PIL filed by Dr Lubna Sarwath, a social worker of the city, against the decision of the authorities concerned to set up a golf course within the walls of Naya Quila.

Petitioner’s counsel B Rachna Reddy argued that the agreement entered into between the Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (erstwhile Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation) and the Hyderabad Golf Association (HGA) was bad in law.

The counsel told the court that UNESCO wrote a letter that it was on the world heritage tentative lists but now, owing to the said destruction, it might not be included in that list.

While admitting the PIL, the bench issued notices to all the respondents and posted the matter for hearing after three weeks.
