HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has, at last, formed a state fee regulatory committee. According to sources, Osmania University former vice-chancellor T Tirupati Rao is its chairman and director of school education G Kishan the convener.

The committee will have representatives from association of parents and school managements as members.  The committee will submit report to the government in a month and will also frame modalities for formation of district school fee regulatory committees.

This comes after many discussions, protests and even intervention of courts. Last year, there were many protests by parents against exorbitant fees being charged by private schools in the city.

The government has also been promising for long to form the committee. In November last the state government even consulted the association of parents over the issue and in January this year the government planned to issue a GO on the issue based on the draft rules brought out by the school education department in consultation with school managements and also parents. However, it was not done.

In September last the Supreme Court rapped the state government for not forming school regulatory committees in districts.
