Telangana minorities welfare department and Urdu academy have joined the centenary celebrations in Osmania University (OU) by holding cultural programmes and literary discussions in the city.

HYDERABAD: Telangana minorities welfare department and Urdu academy have joined the centenary celebrations in Osmania University (OU) by holding cultural programmes and literary discussions in the city. 

The programme will be hosted at a two-day national seminar being held at Plaza Hotel in Begumpet, beginning from Monday. The gathering saw a panel of guests including deputy chief minister Mahmood Ali, adviser to Telangana Minorities Welfare department AK Khan, Suleman Siddiqui, former V-C of OU, Anwar Moazzam, former head of department, Islamic Studies department of OU.   

“The state government is committed to the development of the minority communities and Urdu language in the state. Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has been devoted towards the welfare of the minorities in the state. If Urdu will survive anywhere in this country, it will be in TS,” he said.

Meanwhile, Siddiqui presented a detailed paper on heritage of the university, “When the university was first established in the Nizam era, there was a special emphasis laid by Nizam Osman Ali Khan to assure that the construction is done in such a way that the domes don’t reflect Mughal architecture but provide a glimpses of a secular structure.”

He talked forgotten historical structures like Madarsahi Azaziya and Dairat al Marif, which had been a part of the university with great pride.
