HYDERABAD: Twelve students, in addition to security personnel and wardens were asked to depose before a committee set up to inquire into the incident that occurred in a men’s hostel of University of Hyderabad during a surprise check conducted on Friday.

The committee set up to inquire into incident in hostel held 10 students responsible on various counts such as refusal to comply with rules, physical intimidation, verbal abuse besides attempting to prevent officials from discharging their duties and damage to property.

In an official statement released by the UoH, it said students were dragging the university to disrepute by raking up controversies.

“The committee expressed deep concern over the trend of using derogatory language, attempts to intimidate and browbeat University officials and drag the University through needless controversies by presenting distorted versions of incidents to the public,” the statement read.

Students have flayed the university for raiding the hostel at night -- an act of moral policing that they allege is aimed at restricting their freedom of space, especially that of women students.
