GITAM holds ‘Joy of Giving’ event

“We can experience the ‘joy of giving’ in umpteen ways and not just by giving money. When we make others happy we can also experience this joy”, said prof Y Lakshman Kumar, Dean

HYDERABAD: “We can experience the ‘joy of giving’ in umpteen ways and not just by giving money. When we make others happy we can also experience this joy”, said prof Y Lakshman Kumar, Dean & Director, GITAM Hyderabad Business School, a constituent of GITAM University, Hyderabad.
He addressed the students of MBA who were celebrating the annual event of “Joy of Giving” by bringing orphan children from a city based orphanage Sankalp Foundation to GITAM campus.

Prof Lakshman Kumar elaborated on how small acts in daily life give us joy. By making people happy through our actions like complimenting others, encouraging them, telling a good joke, giving way to somebody on an urgent work, holding doors for a few extra seconds for people to pass, helping parents, offering tea, and other such apparently simple acts can bring us joy, and by a law of nature they come back to us.

Prof N Siva Prasad, Pro Vice Chancellor, GITAM Hyderabad campus, in his address said that our ancestors derived joy from hosting. A guest is considered God. Charity and sacrifice for the needy are considered highest virtues by our tradition. Our scriptures are replete with examples like Bali and Harishchandra who did not hesitate to part with everything when someone sought their help. If everyone practices sharing we can transform the society into a more humane and just structure.

The students of MBA, BBA and BCom (Hons) raised funds and provided the children with stationery kits and monetary donation. They conducted competitions in outdoor games and cultural activities for the children and gave away prizes.
