HYDERABAD: A day after police booked three persons in connection with the drowning of the two-and-a half-year-old boy at Bachpan playschool in Malkajgiri, education department on Thursday sealed the school and stripped it of the recognition for being negligent towards safety and security of the children. It was found that the school was operating illegally and did not have the necessary registration or permit. Operating from a double-storeyed building, the school was a residential building that was later put to commercial use.

Shiv Rachith’s body was fished out from a 15-feet deep sump on the school premises on November 14, following which the parents approached the police and a case due to negligence was registered against the school. The sump in which Rachith had drowned was beside the main entrance and close to the play area. There were two more uncovered sumps on the premises.

On Wednesday, the principal along with the counsellor and security in-charge of the school were arrested.
Meanwhile, activists who have lauded the prompt action from the department are also wary of the future of the other children studying in the school and have demanded that the playschool management should refund the fee amount.
