HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Collectorate will have to fight out 800 legal battles in the courts to get back chunks of government land which have allegedly been encroached over the years in the city.
Hyderabad collector Yogita Rana on Saturday said there are 800 litigations pending in courts over ownership of government land encroached in city and counters have been filed by district administration in 50 of them. Counters are being filed as per priority assigned to each case and of the 800 cases, 150 have been assigned top priority.

Rana expressed confidence that counters will be filed in all remaining litigations by the end of this year. She said that tahsildars are updating details of all the 800 litigations on a web portal developed by Centre for Good Governance and that the district administration is keeping a track on all the cases. Speaking to mediapersons a day after she completed three months as collector of Hyderabad, Rana informed that of the 61,412 applications received under the land regularisation scheme of GO 58, about 12,200 applications have been cleared by government. This is just 20 per cent of applications received.

However, when it comes to GO 59, which is land regularisation scheme for those who have encroached government lands from 25 sq yards to more than 500 sq yards, about 16,601 applications have been received. However, about 31 per cent of received forms have been cleared. Government has generated revenue of `156 crore from this scheme, informed Rana.

Rana informed that a baseline test will be administered to class X students in all government schools in city by year end and test results will be used to identify students with poor performance who need support. The focus will be to identify such girl students who will get an adequate support like extra classes and tagging them with teachers for personal attention to ensure that they do not fail in the board exam and drop out. She also informed that of the 914 Anganwadis in Hyderabad, 140 are located in rent-free buildings. She said that in phase-1 of Anganwadi reforms 208 Anganwadis in need of attention will be covered. Of these, 25 will get new buildings.
