Nine arrested for attempting to sell fake diamond

Nine persons, who attempted to sell a molded piece of glass faking it as a precious diamond that would bring prosperity and wealth, were arrested by the special operations team of Rachakonda police.

HYDERABAD:  Nine persons, who attempted to sell a molded piece of glass faking it as a precious diamond that would bring prosperity and wealth, were arrested by the special operations team of Rachakonda police. The gang members claimed that they were duped by a city resident who sold the glass for `1 lakh four days ago. They then managed to convince a city-based businessman to purchase the glass piece but they were arrested before they could sell it, said the police.

On Friday evening, when the SOT sleuths were on vehicle checking drive at Kondapur X roads, a car and two bikes, which were travelling together suspiciously, were spotted and stopped. On physically checking the car, a glass object was found.During questioning, accused Marri Narsimha, Sriram Srininivas, Macha Sagar, Kavali Ravinder, Bodige Venkatesh, Godugu Laxmaiah, Kavali Srinivas, Godugu Narsimha and Anupati Balajagadish confessed to having bought the glass piece from Ravi of Attapur, who lured them saying that the it was a diamond and thta it will bring good wealth and health to the people in its possession.

They successfully lured a businessman from Hyderabad on the pretext of selling the diamond claiming that they found it during a treasure hunt near Ramogi Film City.  “The gang had a deal to sell the glass object for `50 lakh and the businessman accepted to purchase it. On apprehending them, a car, two bikes, 10 phones, `1.73 lakh in cash and the fake diamond was seized and they were remanded to judicial custody,” said Rachakonda police.
