HYDERABAD: A man allegedly killed a 19-year-old woman, because he reportedly suspected she was in a relationship with someone. The police said the accused had confessed that he killed her by punching her to death and then dumping her body in IDL Lake at Kukatpally by packing her body in a gunny bag on Friday. The deceased R Sowmya (19), a resident of TSIIC Colony in Shahpur of Jeedimetla police station limits was studying first year graduation at Gitanjali Degree College in Chintal area. She was living with her mother Sunitha and younger brother. Sowmya was already married, but had reportedly left her husband.

At around 8.30 am on Friday, police said Sowmya left home saying she was going to college. When she did not return by night, her family tried to reach her by phone but in vain. They then called her friends and learnt that she did not go to college. Later, Sunitha went to Jeedimetla police station and lodged a missing persons complaint and said she suspected one Ayitharaju Krishnaiah (26) alias Krishna, who is their distant relative, as being responsible for Sowmya’s disappearance.

Even as the police started investigation, late in the night on Friday, Krishna surrendered before the KPHB police and confessed to having killed Sowmya and dumping her body in IDL Lake in Kukatpally.  “Based on his confession, the body of Sowmya was recovered from IDL Lake. The body was packed in a gunny bag with two huge boulders put in it. Inquest has been done to the body at the spot and sent to Gandhi hospital for autopsy,” said Balanagar ACP T Goverdhan. The missing case of the woman was later altered by the Jeedimetla police and Krishna was booked under Sections 201 (Causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender), 302 ( Punishment for murder) and 363 ( Punishment for kidnapping) of IPC and arrested.

Call waiting proved fatal for Sowmya

Police said Krishna was angry after reportedly seeing some pictures of Sowmya with another boy and abused her. The girl had slapped him due to which he grew more angry and punched Sowmya in her chest, said police sources. Krishna, a resident of Bharath Nagar in Kukatpally was working as a cab driver. Around six months ago, the paternal and maternal families of Sowmya thought of getting her married to Krishna, but he told them that he needs some time to settle in life.  Krishna, who had lost his parents is living with his maternal uncle. Soon after the marriage proposal, Krishna and Sowmya met at an event in Bhongir. They exchanged mobile numbers and became friends.

The accused reportedly told police that for the last three months he developed suspicion regarding Sowmya based on her long phone calls with others and wanted to get clarification from her. But, in a fit of rage, he punched her to death.  At 8.45 am on Friday, the duo met in Shahpur, where regularly Sowmya boards the bus to college. Krishna picked her up and took her to HMT area and  killed her and dumped the body in the lake.

“Suspecting that Sowmya was in a relationship with someone else, Krishna wanted to ask her, but she denied to have been dating someone else.
