MNCs’ strict rules might cause road accidents

Cab drivers are compelled to drive fast as they will be penalised if the employees reach their office late

HYDERABAD: Stringent rules put in place by MNCs’ in the IT and BPO sectors have pushed cab drivers to test their driving limits at the risk of recklessness and a rising noise pollution in the most popular part of the city. Cab drivers are penalised by MNCs if their employees reach late and the login time is monitored with technology. This means that the average cab driver who does not wish to be fined from his meagre earnings has to ensure, by all means, that the employees reach the office campus on time. Not only is the driver required to reach the pickup points on time, he is also responsible for transporting the employees to their offices on time. This means he is compelled to drive at the fastest speed possible to and from his destinations.

Rajesh Kalyan, an employee of the IT firm who commutes to work by his own two-wheeler told Express that he is always afraid of reaching the hospital instead of his office or home.
“They honk with dual-tone horns so loudly and repeatedly that I am compelled to wear earplugs.
But this puts me at a higher risk of falling victim to accidents since these cab drivers, whether they are driving a Tata car or a Mahindra SUV, drive so rash that if I don’t hear them behind me, I might very well get knocked off the road,” he said.

However, those working there have lost hope of any improvement in this unpleasant situation. An employee of the BPO, Mohammad Abid Khan is witness to the rising rashness of cab drivers since she commutes to work in a cab.“Earlier they used to drive fast, since there was space on the road to drive at a high speed. But with traffic increasing every day, these cab drivers are getting rasher in their driving, and they refuse to relent even when we ask them to drive safe,” she said.
