University of Hyderabad rusticates PhD scholar, fines two others

Last year, Kaluram Palsaniya was also handed a suspension order along with a fine for abusing a Dalit Economics professor.

HYDERABAD: Hours after NIRF ranked it as the fifth best university in the country, the University of Hyderabad on Tuesday (UoH) issued orders to rusticate a PhD scholar for six months for alleged misbehaviour and indiscipline with a faculty in the Psychology department.  Two other students have been slapped with fines over same charges.

PhD scholar Linga Swamy Baikani would not be allowed to attend academic activities or stay in hostels for a period of six months and would also be liable for penalty of Rs 30,000, reads the UoH administrative order.

Meanwhile, the administration has imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Hakeem, an M.Phil student of Comparative Literature and Thahir Jamal, a Ph.D scholar of Comparative Literature.

The disciplinary action against the students was taken by a Proctorial Board after the faculty member raised a complaint with the administration. It may be recalled that this the second such incident being reported in the recent past. Last year, Kaluram Palsaniya was also handed a suspension order along with a fine for abusing a Dalit Economics professor. The order, however, was later revoked.
