Traumatised boy yet to know of mother’s death

The seven-year-old boy Jatin, whose mother Bingi alias Pinki, was brutally murdered by her lover and others, has not been informed about her death yet.

HYDERABAD: The seven-year-old boy Jatin, whose mother Bingi alias Pinki, was brutally murdered by her lover and others, has not been informed about her death yet. The boy, who is undergoing post-traumatic stress disorder, is in need of mental health support and would be called to the Vishwas Support Centre for four to five sessions.

Jatin witnessed his mother being beaten by four persons including his foster father, at a house in Madhapur, before she was killed and cut into pieces using a machine. He was staying with the same persons for around 14 days and was coping with the situation. The counsellors at the Vishwas Support Centre (VSC), who spent 18 long hours with Jatin to create a congenial environment to know facts about his mother’s death, shared how difficult it was for them to deal with the sensitive situation.

Lavanya Miryala was asked by the Cyberabad police to counsel the child, who could provide clues in cracking the murder case.. “Though at VSC, we deal with victims of child sexual abuse, we had taken the challenge of counselling Jatin. We learnt that the boy has some information about his mother. We were sure that the boy has some clues to solve his mother’s murder case,’’ said the counsellors.  “He could speak only Hindi and looked stressed. It was very unusual to a see a kid in such a situation. Initially, we conversed for around two-and-half hours with the boy to create a congenial environment.

Whenever he felt stressed, we stopped the interaction and engaged him in playing and giving refreshments,” said Lavanya.Lavanya told Express: “The 18 hours long conversation with the boy provided clues to the police. He was with the accused for 14 days and they had threatened him so much that he was shivering. When his foster father Vikas Kashyap was nabbed and was brought in front of Jatin for identification, it was really tough.”

Initially, Jatin was jittery seeing him, as it appeared that the accused had traumatized him and brainwashed the kid not to reveal anything, but the boy gave the same statement that he gave earlier, which conclusively established the role of the accused.

“The boy who is already under extreme stress was not told about his mother, as it could put him under more stress. Jatin does not know that his mother died. He is under the impression that his mother is pregnant and undergoing treatment.

When we showed Bingi’s clothes to the boy, he got panicked and asked where his mother was, but we managed the situation,” she shared. Answering a query, Lavanya said “We will request Cyberabad police commissioner Sandeep Shandilya to get the boy to the Centre, as he needs at least four to five counselling sessions to come to terms with his mother’s death.”
