HYDERABAD: A 10-step recommendation has been put forward by an architect and heritage activist to the State government on Tuesday underlining how to preserve the remains of the collapsed Mississippi Hangar.

“The hangar after re-assembling should be relocated to the ORR where it can be used to house handicraft melas and other such events. The metal should not be wasted,” read the plan prepared by Asif Ali Khan, an architect and a heritage enthusiast.

He also asked the State government to award the restoration contract to an experienced contractor specialising in steel structure work. He said: “The rust and old paint should be removed. It should be then restored to original length and the joints of members should be strengthened with new rivets.”

The recommendation also urged the government to recoat the metal with zinc oxide to prevent further rusting.
