HYDERABAD: An alert policeman on patrolling duty nabbed a person, who allegedly tried to rape a minor girl on Wednesday evening at an isolated place near HMT factory that has been lying abandoned in Jeedimetla.

Jeedimetla police inspector C Shanker Reddy, who was on patrol along with his driver, heard the cries of a girl and rushed inside, only to find the suspect Rohith alias Munna (25) with the minor girl.

According to police, when the girl came out of school, Munna stopped her saying that he will take her to her grandfather. He also lured her by giving snacks and ice-cream for her. Around 6 p.m., when Shankar Reddy was patrolling HMT and surroundings, he heard the girl’s cries.  He rushed to the abandoned area to find Munna attempting to rape the child.

“On questioning, the girl said that Munna was a stranger and just met her outside the school. Later Munna also admitted that she was not his relative and he got her with him,” Shankar Reddy said. Police registered a case under POCSO Act and arrested him.
