HYDERABAD: With a whole set of colonies carved literally out of rock formations, residents of Borabanda continue to ride on poor road stretches as re-carpeting of several roads is pending. This is despite massive projects taken up in the ward to lay new roads. A section of the colonies also face frequent blockage and overflow of drains. At the important stretch lying between Banjara Nagar and Sivaji Nagar which is used by the locals to connect to Hi-tec city, the road continues to be non-motorable as it is riddled with potholes which take the size of a crater.
“For eight months now, the road has been lying in a bad shape after pipelines were installed. The supporters of the corporator install banners across but do not take care of the road on which even they travel,” said A Narasimha, a resident. The problem is widely experienced by the residents of NRR Puram, JNNURM housing scheme, Site -3, and in Swaraj Nagar in the ward.
When contacted, Baba Fasiuddin, Corporator of the ward said that proposals for tenders are almost finalised. “A `16 lakh worth of tenders are exclusively awaiting clearance for relaying of roads. Once that is sanctioned, the problem would be solved,” he assured. At Baba Sailan Nagar, a weaker section colony, water from the HMWS&SB is let out only once in four days, the locals allege. This is coupled with low intensity of water being let out at untimely hours of the day.
“Our constant complaints to the corporator has not helped us as we still fetch our water from the water supply centre located at a far off distance from here. Water is given in scarce and moreover, it comes once in three or four days,” said G Yadaiah, representative of the colony. The colony also has the issue of overflowing drains due to narrow underground drainage pipelines. The problem persists in colonies like Raj Nagar and Madhura Nagar and at several other bylanes inside the ward. “Drainage issue has been a major concern in the ward considering the thickly populated area. There are several escalations made to the water boards authority and only time can make it solve,” Fasiuddin said.
‘We want a playground’
The ward also has a dearth of playgrounds, Aasara centres and parks, thus forcing people to refrain from recreational activities. Interestingly, the corporator who is also Deputy Mayor of GHMC has only said that several law and order issues in the ward were controlled due to timely collaboration with the police. “On six ocassions, major communal riots were snubbed as we had a permanent police out-post at Site -2 that was inaugurated after I was nominated to the post,” opined Fasiuddin.
