HYDERABAD: To promote the fitness of mothers, a car rally ‘Move Mom Move’ was held at Novotel Hyderabad Airport on Sunday. “If the mother is healthy, the entire family will be healthy”, observed Dy Speaker of Telangana Assembly Padma Devender Reddy, who flagged off the drive.

Over 75 teams took part in the rally, which travelled 70 km through urban and rural roads and concluded at Shadan Medical College near Appa Junction. The rally was conceptualised by Million Moms, founded by city-based social entrepreneur Dr Mani Pavitra. Her aim is to reach out to one million moms and inspire them to be fit, healthy and happy.

TSD (Time Speed Distance) rally is a form of motorsport usually conducted on public roads as well as off-road and dirt sections for fun. The objective of these rallies is to maintain precise time and precise speeds on various segments of a predefined route mentioned in a road book. Each team usually consists of a driver and navigator. Teams usually start a TSD rally at fixed intervals of a minute or two, informed Dr Mani Pavitra.

At the time of flag off, each team was given a road book, which guides the navigator with the route and average speed to be maintained. Along the route there were several Time Control zones, the positions of which would be unknown to the teams. The marshals on the way noted the timing at which the team arrived. The difference between a team’s actual time and the ideal time determine their penalties. (Late and early arrival both attract penalties). The team with the lowest number of penalty points wins.
