HYDERABAD: A first-year MA student, who is eight-months pregnant, had to leave the exam centre without giving the test on Thursday. Tasleem Sultana, pursuing her distance education from Osmania University, was in for a shock when the staff at Scholars Degree College for Women in Gaddiannaram, Dilsukhnagar, an examination centre of the Osmania University, allegedly refused to consider her plea to allot her a seat in the ground floor.

As she was allotted the fourth floor, the 26-year-old requested the college to provide a seat on the ground floor but the staff allegedly refused to oblige her requests. Disappointed, she returned home without writing the examination.

“I reached the exam centre as early as 11.45 through the exam was at 2 p.m. and requested the staff to provide a seat on the ground floor as I am unable to climb to the fourth floor and there was no lift facility in the college.  But the staff denied my request. Left with no option I had to return,’’ Tasleem said.

“The incident has not only caused loss of academic year but humiliation. Police must take action against the college,’’ MBT leader Amjad Ullah Khan, tweeted after learning about the incident.

The Malakpet police visited Scholars Degree College which said that the victim was late by one hour.  The college told the police that they had allowed five other pregnant women to sit on the ground floor, considering their health and despite being late by 30 minutes.
