HYDERABAD:  One would expect that civic works would proceed at brisk pace when MA&UD minister KT Rama Rao himself adopts a GHMC ward. But it has not seemed to make a difference at Hydernagar ward near Kukatpally. With roads dug up at several places, it’s an everyday ordeal for locals who use them. For instance, at Nandamuri Nagar, a 150 m road has been left unattended for months, making it risky for commuters. Residents in nearby gated communities are worst affected.

“Everyday, at least ten motorists either fall or get stuck while commuting here. Only two vehicles can go through the road due to its elevated manholes,” A Shiva Shankar, a resident said. Cars cannot go through the place and have to take a 2 km long diversion, he added.

Speaking to Express, Janaki Rama Raju, ward’s corporator said the delay in works was because of lackadaisical attitude of contractor. “The first contractor left the work without finishing it and second one is doing it at a slow pace. We will make sure that the works are completed in 15 days,” he said. He added that a `80 crore was sanctioned for works on the road at Mithra Hills.

Facelift of lake neglected
The beautification works at Alibanda Lake seems to have been shelved. Much of the work, such as the conversion of the walking trackm us yet to be completed and part of lake remains filled with water hyacinth due to a constant inflow of drainage

No bus stop at Hydernagar
There is no bus stop for locals in the ward. The bus stop situated on the main road was removed when HMRL constructed footpaths there. “The corporator has made our lives difficult. Locals are getting drenched as it rains,”said N Srinivas, in-charge of Congress
