Two schools inaugurated at GITAM; granted grade-1 autonomy

HYDERABAD: University Grants Commission (UGC) has granted grade-1 Autonomy to GITAM Deemed to be University. It is one of the few institutions in the country to get this status, said by vice-chancellor Prof MS Prasada Rao on Saturday. He presided over the inauguration of GITAM School of Architecture and Gandhi School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Addressing the gathering he said getting autonomy will help GITAM reach international standards. “We are under the ambit of UGC but we have the freedom to start new courses, off-campus centres, skill development courses and any other new academic programs.”

“We have the freedom to hire foreign faculty, enroll foreign students, enter into academic collaborations and run open distance learning programmes, etc. We have also been placed in the ‘Study in India’ programme, which aims to attract foreign students to study in India,” he said.

Prof Rao launched PrepENG (English for Competitive Exams) web portal and the second issue of the Vikas Magazine.
