Hyderabad: You can Nowcast weather info every 3 hrs!

HYDERABAD: The new buzz word in the field of weather forecasting is ‘nowcast’, which will provide the weather conditions once in three hours in Hyderabad and other cities in the state.    “The nowcast will provide real time information to the people in Hyderabad and other important cities in the State from this season onwards,” according to Disaster Management Commissioner RV Chandravadan. After attending a meeting with Chief Secretary S K Joshi on the preparedness for the south-west monsoon, Chandravadan said that the nowcasts would be useful up to three or four hours ahead of rains or any other weather conditions.

Chandravadan said that they put the Army, NDRF and police teams on high alert, especially in the vulnerable districts like Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Adilabad and other areas of Godavari basin. “We shifted around 12,000 people from Godavari basin areas to safer places last year. That is why we have alerted the Army, which recently conducted a recce in vulnerable districts,” the Commissioner said. The Disaster Management department also identified helipad places in all the vulnerable districts to airlift the people, if necessary. The stocks of essential commodities have been readied for three months, for distribution to the affected people.

Joshi said that the Disaster Management department would bring out an App to give weather reports to the people.
