HYDERABAD: In a relief to the families affected by the construction of Gouravelli and Karvena reservoirs as part of the Palamuru Rangareddy lift irrigation project in Siddipet district, the High Court on Thursday stayed the process of dispossessing the families of the lands sought to be acquired until the rehabilitation benefits were provided to them.

Justice MS Ramachandra Rao passed the order on petitions which sought directions for authorities concerned with providing benefits to them under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 (Land Acquisition Act, 2013). The petitioners’ counsel said that dispossession would result in deprivation of their livelihood and urged the court to issue directions otherwise.
