Patancheruvu residents cry foul over official apathy

Patancheruvu, the last ward that falls under the purview of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), has hit a major roadblock.

HYDERABAD: Patancheruvu, the last ward that falls under the purview of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), has hit a major roadblock. With several roads left unattended to underground drainage pipelines that are yet to be laid in a majority of colonies, the ward has turned into a major disappointment for the locals. Consider this. Gautam Nagar, the colony where the corporator of the ward resides, has several stretches that are in dire need of proper roads. “The corporator of the ward stays two lanes away but even he could not manage the officials to lay road at this important stretch. We face a tough time when it comes to commuting,” said Md Immamuddin, a local resident.

The same problem persists in other colonies such as Shanti Nagar, JP Nagar, and Ambedkar colony as roads are either half laid or riddled with potholes and mud.  Being a low-lying area, it does not take a heavy spell of rain for several colonies to get inundated. However, UGD pipelines are to be installed in colonies like Ambedkar colony and Sri Nagar colony and Sri Ram Nagar colony.

Meanwhilw, N Rajavardhan Reddy of Sri Ram Nagar colony welfare association observed that several lanes in the locality often get inundated. “We have given numerous representations to the corporator but nothing seems to have worked out so far,” he said.  Residents of the ward are also troubled lot. Reason: dog menace. A pack of dogs can be found loitering around causing inconvenience to residents in every other lane.

“Just last week, there were two people who were bitten by the stray dogs. It looks like the dogs are being translocated from other places to here,” said Md Saleem, a resident of Shanti Nagar. When Express contacted the corporator of the ward N Shanker Yadav said, “The reason behind development works being stalled is due to the apathy of the executive officers.” “Since my political affiliation is to a different party, sanctions to boost development in the ward is going at a snail’s pace.” “We received only `2 crore in the past three years, which speaks for the bias that exists,” the corporator alleged while speaking to Express.
