HYDERABAD: In a bid to ensure safety of women in public transport, HMRL Managing Director, N V S Reddy said that if the seats reserved for women in Metro trains were occupied by male passengers, they could be fined up to Rs 500.

A decision to this effect was taken in a joint meeting held between HMRL and LTHMRL officials at Metro Rail Bhavan, Rasoolpura here on Monday. It would come into force shortly, he added.

In this regard, he also directed the LTHMRL officials to post special security personnel in the metro bogies and requested the L&T officials to create a Whatsapp number to lodge a complaint, if necessary.

Reddy instructed the officials to keep the surroundings of metro stations neat and tidy and instructed to complete the unfinished works in LB Nagar to Miyapur and Nagole to Ameerpet stretches. He instructed the horticulture wing of HMRL to plant more saplings in and around the metro station premises.

He observed that several unauthorised encroachments on the footpaths which were recently constructed by the HMRL in all metro stations have come up and he asked the officials concerned to remove such encroachments from the premises.
