HYDERABAD: Delhi Public School (DPS), Mahendra Hills has been served a show cause notice for charging school fees without approval from District Fee Regulatory Committee (DFRC) and for charging capitation fees. The school has been found guilty of charging fees for a wide range of activities that are optional for the students.

As per a Government Order released in 2009 (GO MS 91), cost of optional activities provided by the school cannot be a part of tuition fees. Moreover, as per rules laid down by the GO which prohibits capitation fees, any fees charged above the fees limit set by DFRC is considered as capitation fees.

DPS, Mahendra Hills has been found to be charging huge sums of money as tuition fees. In 2017-18, the school charged as much as Rs 1.22 lakh just for admission to pre-primary school whereas it was Rs 1.26 lakh for classes I-IV and Rs 1.30 lakh for classes V-VI. While the Hyderabad DEO received a reply from Head Mistress of DPS, Mahendra Hills, the reply was found to be unsatisfactory. The school has been asked to respond again and DEO is awaiting the reply.
