HYDERABAD: Regula Ramya aspired to become a police officer, says her family. Pinky, as she was called at home, wanted to work on women’s safety despite her family’s advice that she was aiming for a risky job. “She was calm, but a brave girl,” says her aunt Tirupathamma, with whom Ramya was staying. The girl had last met her parents Sunday evening and returned to her aunt’s place for college.

Her parents, Paramesh and Chandrakala, are tailors. They, along with their younger daughter Lalitha, stay in Katedan for work. “Since childhood, Ramya dreamt of becoming a cop someday. None of our family members are in that profession, so we told her it’s a risky job but she had fixed it in her mind,” says her mother Chandrakala.

She had visited her parents in Katedan to attend a function. Though they requested her to stay back that night, Ramya left saying she had a test in college on Monday. “She was very focussed in her studies. Sometimes, she wouldn’t come down for months as she had lessons to prepare,” says her mother.
