KOCHI: The construction work of the first phase of the prestigious Vyttila Mobility Hub project is expected to be completed by February 15, 2011. The Rs 15.8-crore tender for the construction has been awarded to Hyderabad-based Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC) Ltd.
“The construction of the first bus terminal, parking facilities, food court and toilet complex will be completed in the first phase. The contract with NCC Ltd will be signed soon,” District Collector M Beena said.
The construction of the state-of-the-art mobility hub will be completed in three phases. There will be two terminals. The main terminal will be constructed in the second phase. Separate restroom facilities will be constructed in each phase.
The repair yard for the buses will be constructed in the second phase. The digital screens which display the timing and schedule of the buses will be installed in the third phase.
The total project cost is estimated at Rs 126 crore of which 50 percent will be provided by the Centre under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme. Once the construction of the main terminal is over, the first terminal will be used as the terminal for city buses.
The construction of the first phase will be completed by using pre-fabricated building materials. The method will help to complete the work within the stipulated time frame. As per the detailed project report (DPR) prepared by the Kerala Industrial and Technical Consultancy Organisation (KITCO), the mobility hub will have 71 bus bays and 150 bus parking spaces for long and short distance buses.
The project has also proposed inter-state bus services from the hub. While accommodating 900 cars and 120 autorickshaws in its parking lots, it will also have a world-class shopping mall, cultural centre, health club, boat jetty and food courts.
The mobility hub is expected to reduce traffic snarls in the city to a considerable extend.
