Don’t be surprised when you see a teenager wearing a T-shirt with the words- ‘Ormayundo ee mukham.’ It is the latest addition to the ever-changing style cycle. Credit for this new trend goes to the music band Aviyal who introduced these T-shirts through the movie ‘Salt and Pepper’. The members of the band appear in the song ‘Aanakkallan’ at the end of the movie wearing T-shirts which carries the famous dialogue ‘Polandine Patty Oraksharam mindaruthu’ from the movie ‘Sandesham’.
This kick-started a new trend, prompting garment manufacturers to introduce such T-shirts in the market. It has so far received an overwhelming response from the youngsters. So which are their favourite punch liners? “Demand is high for the T-shirts in which the famous dialogue from ‘Oru Vaddakan Veeragadha’- Chanthuvine tholppikkan aavilla makkale- is printed. T-shirts with Mohanlal’s celebrated one liner- ‘Savari Giri Giri’- is yet another favourite of the customers,” says Yesudas Thomas, Max X collections, Chembumukku. The price range of these T-shirts vary from `140 to `185, depending upon the quality and manufacturers.
But it’s not only dialogues of superstars that are finding a place on T- shirts. ‘Meen Aviyal Enthayo Entho’ - the comic number by Sreenivasan in the movie, ‘Akkare Akkare Akkare’ , ‘Thomas Kutty Vittoda’ by Mukesh in Harihar Nagar series, ‘Gafoor Ka Dosth’ are other punch dialogues that are printed on the T-shirts,” adds Yesudas. The sensational dialogue by late Jayan in the movie ‘Angadi’, ‘We are not Beggars’ is also another hot favourite.
Many also buy plain T-shirts and later get their favourite dialogues printed on them. “We charge `80 for printing dialogues,” he says. Not only filmy dialogues, but songs, proverbs and jokes too are popular on T-shirts. ‘Enikkoru pennundu karimashi kannundu’ (song from ‘Thilakkam’ is usually preferred by romeos), ‘Poochakkaru Manikkettum’ and ‘Oru Notebook Eduthal Oru Facebook Free’ are most commonly seen.
