Thrissur district maintained the lead with 3,555 points on Friday when the results of 90 events were declared on the third day of the state CBSE youth festival organised by the CBSE Schools Management Association at the Sarabhai Science Park, Kakkanad. Ernakulam district with 3,162 points stood second and Kozhikode with 761 points stood third.
School-wise, S N Vidyabhavan, Chandrappini, maintained the lead with 389 points, followed by Rani Public School, Vadakara, with 365 points.
Holy Grace Academy is at the third position with 342 points.
The air was a blend of excitement and tension when contests in bharatanatyam, mohiniyattom, folk dance, group dance, group song, classical music and mime were staged.
Sreehari Ramdas from Sree Sankara Vidyapeetam, Mattanur, bagged the first prize for oil painting, second prize for cartoon and pencil drawing in the fourth category. A physically challenged student, he is interested in painting, sketching, sculpture and dancing. He has displayed his talent in mimicry too.
He had conducted an exhibition of his paintings in Pala. He is a two-time champion in the painting competition held by the Ministry of Forestry. He also submitted his painting for the ‘Save the Frog’ art competition held in California and has exhibited his works on his website. Sreehari has got a number of awards at the district and the state-level competitions too.
Jayasoorya Premchand, a plus-one student from Sree Narayana Public School, Vadakkevila, Kollam, bagged the first for pencil drawing and the second prize for water colouring in category number five. Jayasoorya who was adjudged the ‘kalaprathibha’ last year displayed his skill in oil painting and cartooning too. Jayasoorya said that his painting was selected for the national postal stamp on November 14 and he received an award from Social Welfare Minister M K Muneer in this regard.
Nima Rose Manjila of Choice Public School has been bagging the first prize for cartoon drawing in the state CBSE meet since 2007. She won the first prize for cartoons in category number four. She has won several prizes in the various regional and Sahodaya meets held annually.
Sachin Ravindran is another star participant of Choice School in category number five.
He bagged the first prize for monoact, mimicry and light music. He also won the second prize for ‘mappilapattu’ and an A grade for classical music.
Contests in kuchipudi, mohiniyattom, ‘duffu muttu’, ‘kolkali’, light music, group song, quiz, Hindi extempore and national anthem will be held on Friday.
A sum of `50 lakh contributed by the students and the staff of the CBSE schools towards the first instalment of the Chief Minster’s relief fund will be handed over to Oommen Chandy at 10 am on Saturday.
Actor Kavya Madhavan will inaugurate the valedictory function in the evening.
