It could be a ‘fortune’ ride for the police chief

The Police Department has placed a request before the Home Department seeking permission for the purchase of a high-end vehicle for the new DGP K S Balasubramanian.

Sources in the headquarters said that, they have sent a proposal to allot a new SUV to the DGP and the file is under the consideration of the Under-Secretary of the Home Department.

The proposal has been put forward to allot a Toyota Fortuner for the new DGP n place of the Toyota Innova which he is currently using.

“With the new DGP assuming charge, the Police Department has decided to upgrade his vehicle.  The new vehicle which we have asked for is a Toyota Fortuner which costs around `25 lakh. The wireless system and the GPS/GIS systems would be fitted in the vehicle. Other advanced security systems will also be available in the SUV. The file is under the consideration of the Home Department and it might be cleared soon,” sources in the headquarters said.

In some of the Northern states, the state police chiefs are allotted a Toyota Land Cruiser or a Mitsubishi Pajero. However, in Kerala, the majority of IPS officers prefer Toyota Innova.

If the Home Department gives the green light to the Toyota Fortuner, then the DGP would be the state government employee in possession of the highest-priced vehicle.
