Smart brains brings out ‘Smart Road System’

It is the undying spirit of three school students who are eager to do their bit for society that is the driving force behind the ‘Smart Road System’.

The idea behind ‘Smart Road System’, brought out by B Mahesh, Johns Chakkalakal and Prasanth G, students from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kadavanthara, is to check the  issue of road safety at special zones.

The students have exhibited the ‘Smart Road  System’ at the Swashraya Bharat Science Expo 2012  at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium which concluded on Wednesday.

At a time when deaths due to accidents are on the rise, measures to restore  road safety are a dire necessity. Regulation of speed has to be  enforced near school and hospital zones. The students have addressed this problem with their ‘Smart Road System’ which  ensures safe speed limits in such special zones. The system proposes a speed control unit posted at authorised areas and critical zones which communicates signals with vehicles. Vehicles fitted  with an RF receiver decodes the signals and cross checks the current speed and modulates it.

An over-speeding vehicle would be given a warning following which the speed  would automatically be reduced. Such a system would ensure road safety in school and hospital areas and help prevent accidents. It is also practical as it can be easily assembled using available technologies.

“Being economical and easy to install, it would be the easiest way to tacke traffic issues. We hope that the government would recognise the need for such a system in every city and take steps to install the system and wipe out accidents in such zones,” said the students.
