A vision to change the world inspires Lakshmy Narayanan to flow colours onto the canvas. A class X student of the Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, Lakshmy has put up her paintings on display at the Durbar Hall Art Centre. A total of 38 paintings adorning the walls of the exhibition hall is drawing art enthusiasts who appreciate the young talent.
Through her paintings, the young artist is attempting to unveil the real face of society. Her art works stand close to nature and its helplessness in extinction. Some of the paintings that stands out in the exhibition are ‘Nature’s killers’ and ‘Parasya Shareeram’. The former work portrays an infant lying on a lotus leaf, holding an axe which represents the mind of human beings who try to destroy the fruitful forces of nature right from birth itself. ‘Parasya Sareeram’ is based on a short story by the famous writer and Kerala Sahithya Award winner E P Sreekumar, where a girl lends out her body for advertisement to fetch money for college fees.
There is a deep understanding in all her paintings which holds a far fetched view towards nature and society.
The strokes are bold, which inspires the onlooker to think for a moment. The changing life in the ever-changing metro has been beautifully portrayed in the canvas.
Social settings are the driving force for the young artist. “In future, I plan to expand my forte and do oil paintings and glass paintings as well,” says Lakshmy. “Training under Chakrapani Master of ‘Chitralaya School of Arts’ Tripunithura has helped her evolve into a fine artist at a tender age,” says her father K S Narayanan, who works with the Merchant Navy.
It’s not only through colours that this young girl expresses her feelings and reactions towards what she sees in life. Lakshmy is also a poet, whose first poetry collection ‘Midnight Dreams’ was released on November 16, along with the inauguration of the exhibition. “I finds poems as a perfect medium to express by inner feelings,” says the young talent. Lakshmy has many accolades to her credit. She has bagged many prizes in painting competitions and cultural fests across the state. This exhibition which began on November 16 and is on till 22nd, is her first solo display.
When asked about her future in arts Lakshmy says art is her passion but she desires to pursue a career in architecture.
