The Heritage Animal Task Force has lodged a complaint with the Prime Minister and the Union Minister of Environment and Forests against the movement of the convoy of the ISRO chairman through a road where 30 elephants were lined up for a parade.
V K Venkitachalam, secretary of the Heritage Animal Task Force, alleged that the entry of the convoy was a violation of the provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act 1978.
“The incident took place in front of the Sreevalsam Guest House of the Guruvayur Devaswom on Saturday. A parade of 30 elephants was being held on the same road when ISRO chairman K Radhakrishnan reached there. It is understood that he was heading to Sreevalsam Guest House as part of his visit to Guruvayur Temple and to participate in the Chembai music festival,” the complaint stated.
“Radhakrishnan does not have the right to create a disturbance there. The police were aware of the situation and yet they allowed the entry of the convoy through the narrow road. The devaswom authorities were also aware of the situation,” the complaint says.
